KSI - Safety Roller
The KSI Safety Roller is a road barrier designed to decrease the severity of accidents. It accomplishes this goal by using shock absorbing rollers to transfer the kinetic energy of a collision into rotational energy, thereby lessening the impact on the vehicle while also reducing the damage done to the barrier itself. Solar powered blinking lights act as a visual deterrent to accidents and additional options such as UV-resistant and/or luminescent coating can reduce maintenance costs. While the price point of the Safety Roller is above most other barriers in the industry (~$90/ft as compared to ~$10-60/ft), the reduced maintenance costs can bring the Safety Roller's lifecycle costs closer to par with other technologies. More importantly though is the fact that the severity of incidents that do occur are reduced while also reducing the overall frequency of incidents. Primary benefits of the Safety Roller barrier system include:
-
Improved shock absorption due to the inherent design that shifts the focus of impact to rotational energy.
-
Damage to property and life is reduced, as the roller absorbs impact and helps drivers correct.
-
Lower lifetime costs as damage to the barrier itself is reduced, thereby lowering maintenance costs due to less frequent replacement requirements.
-
Higher visibility and greater "shy distance" from the barriers due to the yellow color of the product.
-
Blinking lights lit by small solar cells increase visibility at night.
